Braintenance: Never Tell Your Adversaries What You're Planning To Do.

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

I'll try to avoid being political. This brief observation concerns itself more with basic human behavioral psychology than it does with politics, banking or the economy at large. This is truly food for thought: Always think before you speak. And when you are addressing a prospective or existing adversary or enemy, apply a common-sense use of the knowledge of behavioral psychology to anticipate their likely response. If you do these things, you can avoid a great many errors along the pathway to your personal success... Here's the article...

Never Tell Your Adversaries What You're Planning To Do:
A Foolish Move On The Part Of The US President.

Dear Friends:

Not too long ago, President Barack Obama and the current US presidential administration announced to the entire banking community that "there will be serious reforms enacted in the consumer credit industry to stop the abuse of the public by credit card lenders." A loudly telegraphed threat, taken by its targets as 1) a helpful warning to give them time to prepare their defenses, and 2) an opportunity to exponentially increase the scale, audacity and variety of abusive charges, sudden interest rate hikes, credit line reductions, fees for every "offense" (real or imagined) and destroyed consumer credit reports. In brief, the banks saw this as a (wink wink) hint to go hog wild at the expense of the consumers and to profiteer to the greatest extent imaginable. Without delay, compunction or conscience, these parasitic plastic panderers proceeded to profit at the expense of the already distressed masses of credit card victims.

Thanks to a well-intended but somewhat unsophisticated Mr. Barck Obama, the banks are stealing enough in fee income from credit card holders that they can pay back their Tarp obligations, raise the salaries of the money gluttons up to (and beyond) their historic maximums, and continue to buy government debt instruments without extending new credit to businesses or consumers.

Consumers are being hurt more deeply by the banking sector and the credit card issuers than ever before. The President of the United States essentially declared it "open season" on the American population. And the consumers are suffering more abuse than ever since the invention of the credit card.

Loud, idle threats always backfire. And only a fool warns his enemies of his intentions to take action against them.

Is anybody listening? Take a look at your credit card statements and wake up. Mr. Obama should really consider investing some time in reading this column.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Braintenance: Brainwave Entrainment Samples

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Braintenance: Brainwave Entrainment Samples

Dear Friends:

I have been a long-standing proponent of brainwave entrainment.

While I cannot and do not guarantee results, I believe that the three samples which follow will provide you with an interesting, relaxing and perhaps enlightening experience.

These recordingas are best enjoyed in a quiet, disturbance-free environment, while seated in a comfortable chair, and using high-quality stereophic headphones to give you the purest sound while simultaneously blocking out external noises.

Enjoy them, and let me know what you think. Your brain has an uncanny ability to deplicate (or resoate) with patterns introduced to it through our perceived senses. The possibilities for learning by simple entrainment (without any conscious effort) hold great promise>
______________
About The Samples
The samples are 10 minute recordings which bring you through Alpha, Theta, and touch upon some Delta. They do not focus one specific goal, but allow you to take a "Full Ride" through some of the most important ranges. The main purpose of the samples is to let you feel the power for yourself and decide what technology is right for you.

1. Headphones Recommended
Binaural Beats require headphones. Monaural Beats and Isochronic Tones do not. If headphones are available, definitely use them with all recordings. Headphones allow your ears to receive the frequencies in their purest state. If no headphones are available, position your speakers on either side of your head as you listen.

2.Give The Recording 8-10 Minutes
Lowering your brain's operating frequencies usually takes more than 5 minutes. Stubborn minds may take 8 minutes. Don't rush the experience, or doubt the power. Be open to influence and you will feel the power.

3.Lay Down In Peace As You Listen
Meditation and Yoga doesn't work in a noisy atmosphere, and neither do Binaural Beats! You must avoid outside interferences and be comfortable. Find a peaceful room, lay back, and close your eyes as you listen.

4.Focus On The Sounds
As you listen, focus on the background sounds. Let your mind drift, but don't hold on to conscious thoughts.

5. Download the Samples Now!
We have 3 samples for you to download and try. Again, they are a full ride through Alpha, Theta, and some Delta. They are not geared for any one subject. These recordings were produced by the Unexplainable Store and not by Douglas Castle, Braintenance or Internal Energy Plus. They are merely brief samples:

Enjoy the experience, and let me know how your fare with these samples. I have a comprehensive library of entrainment, subliminal and hypnotherapeutic tapes of greater length and superior quality. Let me know if you should have an interest, and I can make these entrainment tools available to you inexpensively,

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Braintenance: Reconciling Opposing Cliches

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Braintenance: Reconciling Opposing Cliches

Dear Friends:

There are two aphorisms which I believe are equally true, and I have actually been known to use them in conversations. Yet, they seem to be at conflict with eachother.

1. The first one is "Necessity is the mother of invention." I have always taken this to mean that when a problem or a need presents itself, it ignites the creative spark in people to find a solution. Thinking about this, most inventions have been conceived in order to either solve a problem or to make a task simpler. Then again, there are many among us who like to create problems just so they can make money helping people to solve them. Note that I have not singled out attorneys, pharmaceutical companies or auto mechanics.

2. The second one is "Desperation is the father of poor decisions." While I have paraphrased this one (and while the original version is not quite as well-known as the one above), I have indeed found it to be true. If you need a car desperately (as you have financial constraints, a job delivering pizzas, and only the weekend within which to get one) just go to your neighborhood used car dealer to try this one out. If you are terribly lonely, go to a singles bar late at night and see what you wake up with in the morning. I rest my case. You are always in a better position to negotiate and decide if you are not pressured or needy. The best bargains tend to go to those who don't need them, and to those who are prepared to walk away from the showroom or the bargaining table.

If both of these sayings are true, then we must take a look at the difference between the meanings of the words necessity and desperation. I entreat you -- look in the dictionary, thesaurus, or wherever you can get the best information and find definitions for each these two words (they just can't be synonymous, can they?) which unlock the apparent paradox between the two "rules" above.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

p.s. The photo in the upper right-hand corner of this article is a candid shot of my personal fitness trainer. Did I hear you thinking, "He's got to be kidding. If that's his fitness coach, then Wayne Dyer should write a book about men's hair styling." ? Paradoxes abound.

BRAINTENANCE: A Wonderfully Paradoxical Question

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

BRAINTENANCE: A Wonderfully Paradoxical Question

Dear Friends (and I take great liberties with the use of this term):

This is a wonderfully paradoxical question, usually asked by one person of another when the first person (the interrogator) has just witnessed the second person (the interrogatee) doing something very foolish: "Do you know how stupid you are?"

Just thinking about the expectations of the interrogator (assuming that the question is not rhetorical, which is, admittedly, a dubious assumption) is a mind-twister. Further, exactly what would the interrogatee's most appropriate response be, given the circumstances?

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

p.s. And why, you may ask, do I begin sentences using the word "And," use so many commas, and insert so many (parenthetical) sentence fragments? I have asked myself this same tri-part question, but because I am asking it of myself, I am not qualified to answer it.

Thinking is such a complicated business. Is it any wonder why so many people have given it up entirely?

BRAINTENANCE: The Core Energy Meditation Technique

BRAINTENANCE: The Core Energy Meditation Technique

Dear Fellow Cerebral Celebrants:

I receive a great many solicitations via email.

The one which follows contains (in addition to the customary long-style sales pitch) a relaxing and entertaining meditation exercise. Please do give it a try and tell me what you think. The company providing the "free sampler" is:

© Copyright. The Mind-Body Training Company
- Proven Practices For Health, Happiness and Abundance -

Today I'm going to teach you a powerful technique that you can use to release any unwanted thought, feeling, or belief. I call it the Core Energy Technique. I’m sure you’ll find what I’m about to show you invaluable….. and something you'll want return to over and over again once you get the hang of it.

You can use this technique to release from any negative state and return to state of strong, clear and balanced vibration. For example, you can use it when you feel stress, anxiety, depression, anger, or any negative emotion. You can also use it when you feel stuck in a limiting mindset or belief like "I'm not worthy of success" or "It's impossible."

Anytime and anywhere you feel off-center is a great time to do The Core Energy Technique. It’s also a great way to connect with your inner guidance system so you feel connected to you really are and what’s truly important to you in your life.

Here is the link: http://www.energymeditationsecrets.com/core-energy-technique.html

I hope you've enjoyed this technique and found it to be useful. Also, perhaps it was just my imagination, but the announcer's voice reminded me a bit of Rudy Giuliani's.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Braintenance: Can we know what we are thinking?

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Dear Friends:

Sometime ago we spoke about (in my monologue, anyway) the notion of detaching one's self from one's own conscious thought processes of the moment and analyzing them with the objectivity of an outsider. Were we able to do this, we could not only observe our behavior and our actions, but we could implement the logical cerebral programming changes necessary to achieve the things which we really wanted in our lives.

My questions to you: Is this possible? And if so, how?

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Public Service Announcement: HEALTHCARE-ASSOCIATED INFECTIONS

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Public Service Announcement: HEALTHCARE-ASSOCIATED INFECTIONS ["HAI"]

Dear Friends:

I recently received the email which follows from Ms. Barbara Dunn, of HAI Watch News, an affiliate of Kimberly-Clark Health Care. It deals with some of the real-life infection hazards, some of which can be debilitating or fatal, which are all-too-often caused during the course of a routine healthcare visit, medical procedure or treatment. Simply stated...you can check into the hospital for a minor procedure and wind up with a life-threatening infection. The better-informed you are about the nature of this danger, the more proactive that you can be in minimizing your own risks, and those of the ones whom you love.

Some years back, school teachers would quote Poor Richard's and chant, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

While I heartily agree with that sentiment, I would also suggest that you remember the old Internal Energy Plus/ TNNW equation: KNOWLEDGE + APPLICATION = POWER. Educate yourself and stay healthy!

I found the hyperlink in Barbara's letter to be of great interest. Please read on, and click on the link in the letter.

Faithfully, and wishing you the best of health,

Douglas Castle

Douglas:

One thing everyone can agree on, no matter where they come down on the current health care debates, is that no one should get sick as a result of visiting the doctor.

Hospitals are rightfully expected to get you better but that's not always the case.  Sometimes people are picking up infections, from pneumonia to antibiotic-resistant staph (MRSA), while under treatment for other health problems, or even while just in the hospital having a baby.  That's a situation that could, and should, be completely avoidable.

Kimberly-Clark Health Care is on the forefront of protecting patients from Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI) and has put together a site dedicated to that prevention called HAI Watch: Not on My Watch.  The site has information for both healthcare professionals and healthcare consumers.

I would like to ask for your help getting the word out on The National Networker.   Here's a microsite which explains everything.  Please use any of the images, logos, videos, etc, on your site:

http://www.haiwatchnews.com/

Please let me know if you have any questions and if you are able to post, I'd really appreciated it if you'd send me the link.

Thank you,

Barbara

BRAINTENANCE: What Would You Call This Type Of Wordplay?

BRAINTENANCE: What Would You Call This Type Of Wordplay?

Dear Thinkers and Occasional Sufferers Living The 'Examined Life'" :

There are all types of wordplay...Palindromes, Tom Swifties, Hyperbole, Rhymes, Oxymorons, Paradoxes (which are cousins of the oxymorons, by the way) and a veritable panoply of poetic devices that we suffered through in junior high school. Synecdoche, anyone? (Def: A figure of speech in which a part is substituted for the whole. An example: "Lend me a hand.").

Visit: http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0072405228/student_view0/poetic_glossary.html
But please come back afterwards.

Here are two questions:

1.     What is the appropriate term for an expression used to denote a grouping of animals of the same species? For example: school of fish; pride of lions, pod of whales, gaggle of geese, murder of crows, pack of wolves...

2.     What would you call this type of wordplay?

"There are two types of people in this world. There's the type who divide the world up into two types of people and the type who don't."

I'll have to get back to you. I am working hard at being lazy and trying to accelerate my command of procrastination.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

p.s. One of my daughters asked me when she was quite young, "Dad, if you find the right term for something, how come that isn't called 'termination'?" When I replied, "It's usually called something else, like classification or categorization," she retorted, "That makes no sense. classification would be if you found your class and categorization would be if your found your cat."

p.p.s. One of my friend Stu's favorite lyrics was from a 1960's song performed by the Byrds. As I recall: "I was so much older then/ I'm younger than that now."

A curious optical illusion follows, sent to me by friend and colleague, Rick Itzkowich (a writer for THE NATIONAL NETWORKER Newsletter). I have titled it "The Fallacy Of Classical Architecture"

Thank you, Rick. Perception, unchecked, is subjective reality. I simply see a row of wrenches, or perhaps tomahawks.

Human beings are much more readily motivated to action by the threat of pain or loss (i.e.,by fear) than by the opportunity to gain, socially, professionally or financially, with some curious high-risk exceptions where it comes to instant gratification. Of course in these latter exceptions, the risk usually involves getting caught (and it is perceived as unlikely) while the reward is pleasure (which is perceived as very likely).

Fear overcomes inertia or creates inertia, while the positive incentive...the opportunity to gain tends to be far less of a driver. Again, there is another exception here where the potential perceived gain is enormous with respect to the amount of risk or work entailed in the process. People tend toward indolence.

Viewing this situation, why do you suppose our minds and our resultant behavior tend to operate in this fashion?

Here are some possibilities:

1.     Because we visualize threats more powerfully, and more sensorially;
2.     Because we feel that the likelihood of loss is always more probable than the likelihood of gain;
3.     Because we are more emotionally invested in maintaining the "status quo" than we are in getting ahead -- we are only motivated when we feel what little we have, or what little we believe that we deserve;
4.     Because we perceive that an adversary's ability and willingness to carry out a threat is far greater than our ability and willingness to make something positive happen through our efforts;
5.     Because we feel, in the deepest reaches of our subconscious, that we are more deserving of punishment than reward (through feelings of low self-esteem, guilt, and the like) and that it is more likely that harm will come to us than happiness;
6.     Because it is, in fact and perception, easier to run away from something than to run toward something;
7.     Because we feel that we are weaker than those around us.
