"Why is it that the bigger the amount of the check that a wealthy investor can write, the shorter that person's attention span seems to be? How do you explain this inverse relationship?"

It is more than an intellectual exercise -- it is a key to understanding a basic aspect of human behavior and the underlying reasons that some of us are increadibly successful, while some of us plod our way through failure after failure...or don't even dare to try to succeed.
